In plain words
- This is a game of knowledge and skill. Luck plays no part.
- Winners are decided only by quiz scores, never by a draw.
- Free tournaments are free to enter. No purchase necessary.
- Prizes are coupons, products or links. Never cash. Never alcohol.
- Thirsty and Wise does not sell alcohol and does not encourage anyone to drink.
1. Organizer and what this is
The Thirsty and Wise Championship (the “Championship”) is run by Thirsty & Wise LLC, Miami, Florida, USA (the “Organizer”).
It is an online knowledge game. Players answer quiz questions about wine and other beverages and earn points for correct answers. It is a contest of skill. It is not gambling, a lottery, a raffle or a sweepstakes. By joining, you accept these rules.
2. Who can enter
- You must be 18 or older, and old enough to enter contests where you live.
- One person, one account.
- The Organizer’s owners, employees, contractors and educators, and their immediate family, may play but cannot win prizes.
- The Championship is open worldwide, except where the law prohibits it. It is not open to anyone located in a country or region under comprehensive US sanctions.
- Void where prohibited by law.
- You never need to buy, taste or drink alcohol to play.
3. Free tournaments: no purchase necessary
Free tournaments are free. Join with your name and a confirmed email address. No payment, no purchase and no alcohol are needed to enter, rank or win. There is no entry fee of any kind.
Each Category and Level is a separate tournament. To enter more than one, join each one with the same email address.
4. Special (paid) tournaments and refunds
- A Special tournament belongs to a paid digital course. The price pays for access to that course, its quizzes and its learning material. It is not a bet, a stake or a ticket to a draw, and it buys no chance of winning.
- Winners of Special tournaments are decided by skill alone, exactly as in section 5.
- No refunds. A course is a digital product, and access starts as soon as you pay. All sales are final, except where the law of your country gives you a refund right that cannot be waived.
- Where the law does not allow paid skill contests with prizes, you can still take the course, but you are not eligible for prizes.
5. How winners are decided
Ranking is decided by skill alone.
- Points come only from correct answers to quiz questions.
- Only the quizzes chosen for a tournament count, and only attempts made between its start and end dates. The current quiz of each tournament is named on the Championship page.
- Only your first attempt at each quiz earns points. Retakes earn none.
- The highest total points ranks first.
- If players tie, the shorter total quiz time ranks higher. If they still tie, the player who earned the points first ranks higher.
- No chance is involved. No draw, coin flip or random pick decides any rank, winner or prize.
- The “Thirsty and Wise” achievement goes to players who complete every quiz of a tournament with an average score of at least 86%. It is a recognition badge only and carries no prize.
6. Tournament periods and Lifetime ranking
- Every tournament has a start date and an end date, shown on the Championship page. Points earned outside those dates do not count for that tournament. Dates and times follow US Eastern Time (Miami) unless the page says otherwise.
- A Lifetime ranking exists for each category and level. It adds up points from finished tournaments and from the other quizzes of the free courses. It is for recognition only and carries no prize unless one is announced.
- Points from a Special tournament join the Lifetime ranking of its chosen category and level only after that tournament has ended.
7. Prizes
- Prizes go only to the top three players of a tournament: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Players who tie on points are separated by total quiz time. Prizes are discount coupons, products or links, and each tournament states what it offers.
- No cash prizes. No alcohol prizes. No cash alternative is offered.
- Prizes are personal. They cannot be transferred or sold.
- We may replace a prize with one of equal or higher value.
- Winners are told by email, at the address on their account. You have 30 days from the prize email to claim. After that the prize is forfeited and simply goes away. No replacement, no extension.
- Coupon codes are single-use, work only with the winner’s email address, and expire on the date shown in the email.
- Winners are responsible for any taxes on a prize.
- Disqualified players receive no prizes.
8. Fair play
- Play alone, with your own knowledge. Do not share answers, get help from other people or AI tools during a quiz, or use bots or scripts.
- One account per person. Do not exploit errors or bugs.
- If these rules are broken, we may remove points, disqualify the player, cancel prizes and close the account.
- We may correct technical errors and recalculate rankings. The Organizer’s decisions are final.
9. Alcohol statement
This is a game about knowledge. Thirsty & Wise does not sell alcohol through the Championship, does not give alcohol as a prize, and does not encourage anyone to drink. The quiz questions are educational and cover how drinks are grown, made and served. You never need to buy, taste or drink anything to play, rank or win.
If you choose to drink, you must be of legal drinking age where you live. Please drink responsibly, and never drink and drive.
10. Your data and emails
- We collect your name, email address and quiz results to run the Championship.
- Public leaderboards show your first name, last initial and your profile photo if you have set one. Appearing on them is part of playing the Championship.
- We send you the emails needed to run the Championship: confirmation, welcome, results and prize emails. If you tick the optional box, we also send you news about new tournaments and quizzes. You can unsubscribe from these updates at any time using the link in the email, and we will still send essential account and prize messages.
- We do not sell your personal data.
- Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
11. Liability, changes, governing law and contact
- We aim to run the Championship without interruption, but we are not responsible for outages, errors, lost connections or other technical problems. We may pause, correct, change or cancel a tournament because of technical problems or events outside our control.
- To the extent the law allows, Thirsty and Wise LLC is not liable for indirect or incidental losses. Nothing here limits rights that the law does not allow to be limited.
- We may update these rules. The version on the Championship page applies. A change does not affect a tournament that has already started, unless the law requires it.
- These rules are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA. Disputes go to the courts in Miami-Dade County, Florida.
